How to increase network coverage without losing data transfer speed?

  • I recently moved into a bigger house, and the Wi-Fi signal just doesn't cover the whole place, especially the backyard and basement. I’ve been using a standard router, but it seems that the further I go, the weaker the signal gets, and I end up with poor speeds. I’m not really looking to spend too much on upgrading everything, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to improve coverage without sacrificing the speed I need for streaming and work. Any tips on how to do this without overcomplicating things?

  • I’ve dealt with a similar issue in my house and found that the key is to properly extend your network without compromising on speed. One method I used successfully was installing an ethernet cable to connect an access point in a part of the house that the router couldn’t reach. Running a long Ethernet cable to a second access point can extend your coverage and keep the speeds steady. Just make sure the cable isn’t too long or you might experience signal degradation. I’ve also used Wi-Fi mesh systems, but Ethernet-based solutions are often more stable.

  • I think using an Ethernet cable to extend the network is a good solution. I've been using a mesh network system in my place, and while it's been good, it still sometimes struggles with performance when too many devices are connected. It might be worth considering a hybrid setup of both Ethernet and mesh for more stable coverage.
