Titan Drills App - New features / Suggested improvements

  • Hi,

Is there any chance to add also some preconfigured padel drills to the apps?

Padel, especially in Europe, has become a very popular sport and having the possibility to catch the attention of the padel players could boost the revenues!

    Thank you,

    Marco

  • Please add the ability to set an album or folder for the app to default to when looking for QR codes.  I have an Android and created an album for my codes.  When I click albums none of my albums show up, and I have to hunt for my codes.

  • So I'd like the ability to do fast hands battle drills where the balls will shoot 1 every second... because apparently no matter what I do my machine shoots them every 3-4 seconds and I'm confused....

  • If possible please:

    1) add an "invert" button that will allow you to invert the position of the ball on each side of the court.  This will allow us to program in the first half of a sequence on one side (eg deuce side) and then quickly create the second half of the sequence on the other side (eg ad side).  This would be great for drilling shots with a partner on each of the deuce and ad sides.

    2) similar to number 3, add a "doubles" option, where can easily program a ball sequence then alternate the entire sequence from side to side.  This will allow me to drill with a partner.  That is say I program balls 1-3 as a return of a drive, approach shot, then a volley at the kitchen.  When I then hit the doubles button, it will feed the drive, approach shot, and volley on balls 1, 3, and 5 to the deuce side but will also feed these same shots on balls 2, 4, and 6 to my partner whose drilling on the ad side.

    3) add in the actual speed of the shot (mph) rather than a number for more intuitiveness

    4) is there any way to make the simulator a bit more precise/accurate?

  • Just received my Titan Ace and have used it a handful of times. Here are my thoughts (some have been mentioned by others already) in order of importance to me:

    1. Increase the number of feed rate options, especially at the faster feed rates. When I hit ground strokes, I'm typically feeding at setting 8 (out of 10), and that is slightly too slow to simulate a groundstroke rally. 9 is way too fast. This means that there's basically no ability to fine-tune the feed rate at the upper end, especially for things like two-line drills or volley drills, where the effective feed rate needs to be doubled. If possible, allow user to simply set a delay in 0.1s increments starting from the minimum possible. The slow feed settings (1-5) are so slow that I can't imagine how these would be used.
    2. Random options within a specified range. Others have mentioned this, and I think it's probably one of the most important additions. Right now, completely random left-right means the machine often launches completely unreachable balls to the far corners of the court.
    3. Don't start a drill automatically upon power-up. I would prefer to have to short-press the power button again before the machine starts shooting balls. I think this is a safety issue.
    4. Improve the visualization accuracy - right now, the animations only update in big steps, rather than adjusting every time you change any setting.
    5. Ability to copy/paste an entire drill.
    6. Ability to re-order drillls

  • @Sarah @ Titan I like the idea of being able to reposition the machine within the drill editor to simulate balls coming from different parts of the court.

  • @Mark Tennis I'm curious where you learned that random range limitions are coming in the app update? It's not mentioned in the press release (I don't think).

  • By far, the most useful improvement would be to be able to select values for the Random setting.  In real play, many shots will come either down the line or cross court. So, it would be helpful to simulate that. Random values from 1-20 are not useful in this situation.  For example, passing shots are going to come on either side of the court. It would be very helpful to set Random direction and specify the values from which the randomness will come, say: 2,3,4,18,19,20.

Being able to set spin to random within specific values would also much better simulate real play in a lot of situations.

By far, the greatest shortcoming of the app now is the inaccuracy of the simulator.  This is supposed to be the key differentiator of the Titan; it NEEDS to be much better.  Right now, it is simply not possible to rely on the simulator to plan drills.  You have to do it by “feel” and trial and error to guess where the machine will shoot the ball.

When the simulator estimates that the ball is going to hit the net, it should not default to show you the ball crashing on a corner of the net; it should at least show you the direction in which the ball is going.

Being able to save comments as part of each drill would be a great simple add. Where one can make notes about where to position the machine, or how well the drill worked.

Being able to add titles to QR codes and save them with a name would be a huge help. Right now, uploading from photo library is very cumbersome, because looking at a screen of QR codes it is not possible to know what each QR stands for. I have a hack for this, going to a file manager where I have QR codes saved with descriptive names, but it is cumbersome to use.

Being able to adjust the position of the machine in the simulator and still get accurate readings would be amazing. Given the endless possibilities, this may not be practical. Realistically, you could probably limit it to a handful of court positions. Most importantly, include a dinking mode with the machine somewhere near the kitchen. From there, adding R sideline, midcourt, L sideline from baseline and kitchen line would probably be enough to cover a wide range of situations.

Adding reference points to the “values” would be an easy great help. Even just providing a reference table somewhere on the app would be helpful. For example, Speed 1 = ~X mph; 2= Y, 3 = Z, etc.  Feed 1 = every 10 seconds; 2= every 8 seconds, etc.

Making the app compatible with Android smart watches would be great. Controlling from a watch on the court would be much easier than from a phone.

Not necessarily an app feature, but it would be super helpful if you could publish a chart with a number of sample values that will get the ball to key locations.  For example, to get the ball to the right baseline corner: Set of values for a flat ball. Set of values for a ball with max topspin. Set of values with max underspin. Set of values for a lob with no spin. Set of values for a lob with topspin. Do the same for at least 9 locations on the court (corners and middle baseline, mid-court, and kitchen line). These references would be HUGELY helpful to design drills. Using these values as a starting point, it would be easy to then tweak up and down to achieve a desired ball.  This would probably take a couple days of experimentation and recording.  It would be far more efficient for TITAN to do this once for all Titan owners, than for each of us owners to have to figure it out on our own. You could even set it up as a live Excel or Google sheet on a cloud site, where anyone in the community could add their own shots.

  • Hi @Sarah @ Titan

I support all of  @Stephen Ahnert 's improvements ๐Ÿ‘ , especially his first suggestion.

    Benefits of Stephen's improvements:

    • Improves our ability to practice rally-like timing between shots.
    • Improves our ability to practice spit-step timing.
    • Gives drills a more rally-like rythm.

If @Stephen Ahnert's goal is for the timing of Titan's next shot to launch when the ball I just hit reaches Titan's baseline, then that's my top-requested feature.

Please thank the whole team for great work on fa great product. Titan is such an incredible training tool.

    Thank you!

  • We are now entering Q4 of 2024.  What is the expected release date for the new software update?

  • @Miguel Rivera Thanks for you detailed response. I've got good news!

You can now adjust the limits of the random settings. The instructions are on this page: https://titanballmachines.com/pages/how-to-adjust-width-settings-in-random-mode-on-the-titan-ball-machine

I can confirm a couple of items in your wish list are included in the new app.

Being able to save comments as part of each drill... we agree! You will be able to add a description to your drills.

Being able to add titles to QR codes and save them... we agree! The drill name will be included in the QR code image

Adding reference points to the “values” ... yes! We are adding true speed, height, feed rate values to the new app

We are also working on improving the simulation and the accuracy of the "default" simulation.

There are many other improvements but I just wanted to jump in here are give you an update.

  • @Don McMullen The new app was released to a selected focus group earlier this month and is currently undergoing some final testing and subsequent refinement. Thank you for your ongoing patiences

  • @Noah S-W Thanks for your feedback. The Remote Watch has a typical watch battery so it should last months if not years before the batery needs to be changed.

I know it sounds easy to create an app for the Apple watch but honestly we are trying to focus on getting the Titan Drills phone app perfect first. It is much easier to provide a simple Remote Watch instead.

  • @Sarah @ Titan Thank you for this update on the drills app. All of us are eagerly awaiting release and your update is extremely welcome news!

As an additional request, it would be great if you could include a ball counter on each drill. It's not an essential feature, but it would be very welcome if it can be done.

  • Im looking forward to the new app update. I too would love to gave a ball counter. Something that allows me to keep track of drilling sessions based on how many balls were launched.

Probably outside the scope of the app, but being able to track drilling sessions in a simple journal format. Tracking what drills were used and for how long. Being able to provide a general idea of how well I did such as how many shots out of 100 were spot on for example.

Since this machine is used for drilling Id like better ways to track my progress.

  • @Noah S-W  Agree with you. Competitors already include the remote for free so Titan providing a Watch app would clearly be seen as the differentiator to make Titan the king of machines.

@Sarah @ Titan I know it sounds easy to create an app for the Apple watch but honestly we are trying to focus on getting the Titan Drills phone app perfect first. It is much easier to provide a simple Remote Watch instead.

I agree with Sarah for Titan setting the correct priorities. It really would have been much better to have designed the Remote to have housed it in a wrist style case so it could have been worn if desired, like a real watch. Reference  Spinshot remote https://youtu.be/p_wdjwFqU3Q?si=xqyR2L31P7OXxq8Q But it's a little late for that now as I would encourage getting the Apple Watch app worked on first as a higher priority.

UPDATE: Titan wasn't releasing a watch app soon enough for me and the current handheld remote design is clumsy to use so I had one designed for the Titan handheld remote to be wearable. https://titanballmachines.com/community/xenforum/topic/148075/how-to-make-a-titan-remote-wearable-and-100-more-usable

  •           @Sarah @ Titan Thank youbfornthe update. I've tried the random rangelimits, per your link. Hopefully, thess will be integrated in the new app so you can select like you do pages to print on a printer. Setting a min-max limit is mildly helpful, but it does not simulate shots that will come either down the line or cross court. Anyhow, thanks for the update! Look forward to the new app (It's been a long time coming!!)

  • I think I caught a sneak peek of the new app interface.....notice the ball placement grid, and the updated shot configuration UI....looks good.

  • @Rodney A Black You can actually see a full demo of it here:

    https://youtu.be/yLi1mrRm57g?si=DYuUtRcAf9Zk87XF

We know it exists... We just can't wait to have it released.

  • @Mirza Trokic had no idea that you-tube video existed, or was posted, awesome news.

I knew it existed as well, Sarah mentioned it was out in the wild being beta tested.  Thanks for pointing me to the video.

I have a demo today for a group of coaches at a club, will be cool to let them know whats on the horizon.
